How Gum Grafting and Lifts Can Change Your Smile!

shutterstock_146387729One of the keys to a healthy smile is healthy gums. Though many people don’t think gums play a crucial role in the health and appearance of your smile, nothing could be more untrue. At Torbram Dental, we understand how your gums can change the look of your smile, and how some people are unhappy with the look of their gums. Because we are away of these things, Drs. Vince Fava and Summer Al Maqdassy is able to offer gum grafting and lifts to their patients.

There are many reasons gums recede, including genetics, gum disease, tobacco use, and brushing your teeth too hard. Even though it may not seem like a big deal, severe gum recession can lead to a number of problems, including jaw bone infection due to harmful bacteria having easy access. Because your gums help keep your teeth in place, excessive gum recession can even lead to tooth loss. With gum grafting, our very talented doctors will be able to replace your missing gum tissue by taking tissue from the roof of your mouth then stitched in place. If your gum tissue is healthy enough, tissue can be removed from that area as well.

Gum lifts are the exact opposite of grafting. Many people complain about having a “gummy” smile, meaning they have too much gum tissue surrounding their teeth. A gum lift is able to lengthen the appearance of your teeth by removing excess gum tissue. Gum lifts are also a good option for people to feel as though their gum line is uneven.
