78294804Of the all the precious commodities, there is none as priceless as time. At Torbram Dental in Brampton, ON, Dr. Vince Fava and his staff of dental hygienists and assistants value your time as much as you do. Therefore, when you need to repair a tooth with a crown, inlay or onlay, they don’t think you should need to set aside two appointments for the procedure. With CEREC One-Visit Crowns, Inlays and Onlays, you can have your smile and your time, too.

Crowns and Inlays and Onlays, Oh My!

A crown, also sometimes called a cap, is a tooth restoration that fully encapsulates a damaged tooth. Whether from decay or injury, when a tooth is severely damaged, the best solution may be to cover the tooth in order to restore function and shield the tooth from further damage. On the other hand, if a tooth has a large cavity, then an inlay or onlay may do the trick. An inlay covers the chewing surface of the tooth and lays inside all of the cusps. An onlay covers the chewing surface of the tooth and extends over at least one cusp.

Crown in a Day with CEREC

Normally, a dental crown or inlay or onlay would require at least two appointments at the dentist. But with CEREC One-Visit Crowns, Dr. Fava can usually complete the entire procedure in about one hour. CEREC incorporates a digital infrared camera that takes an optical impression of your damaged tooth and 3-D software that designs the restoration, including the appropriate size, shape and color of your new tooth. This design is then sent electronically to a milling unit that uses high-speed burs to fabricate the restoration from porcelain or composite resin material.

When the restoration is ready, Dr. Fava checks the fit and then cements the crown, inlay or onlay in place. Now, you have a complete tooth restoration in one visit.
