Dental care is a true blessing. However, not everyone has the financial resources to access it. The Brampton, Ontario dentists at Torbram Dental celebrate the success of their 3rd annual “Dentistry from the Heart” Day this past September 19, 2015.

What is “Dentistry from the Heart?”

Dentistry from the Heart is a not for profit organization in New Port Richey, Florida. Dedicated to spreading hope and necessary dental services to people in need, Dentistry from the Heart has held several free dental care days in offices across the world for the past 14 years.

Work is done by volunteer dentists, dental students, hygienists, assistants and support staff in the best of dental practices. The services provided are important and necessary and include exams, cleanings, extractions and fillings, restoring otherwise neglected smiles to good health.

Our own event

Brampton, Ontario dentists, Drs. Vince Fava, Summer Al Maqdassy and Joseph Hasso,  love the community they serve. They and their friendly staff are dedicated to bringing optimal health to patients of all ages. They recognize a need among those in the community who lack the resources to pay for dental care. So, the team at Torbram Dental held their first Dentistry from the Heart day in 2013.

The idea was to open the modern offices at Torbram Dental to the public, serving patrons free of charge on a first come, first served basis. Each year, including 2015, the doctors and staff served scores of people 18 years of age and older, giving away thousands of dollars in dental services.

While the event did not begin until 7:30 a.m., individuals literally camped out on the office doorstep, eager to be the first to have their teeth and gums checked and treated. By the end of the day, the dentists had seen 80 patients, for a total of $21,000 in cleanings, exams, fillings and extractions. Participants brought 260 pounds of non-perishable food items for donation to the Salvation Army.

Why shouldn’t everyone get dental care?

Unfortunately, dental decay, gum disease and other oral health conditions know no socioeconomic boundaries. Plus, how healthy teeth and gums are impacts how good systemic health is. As such, the Torbram Dental team feels that giving to the wonderful community of Brampton, Ontario in this way is a wonderful benefit and blessing to everyone involved.

Thank-you to all

The doctors and staff wish to thank their exceptional volunteers who helped escort patients, hand out supplies, fill out paperwork and just in general, took care of all the many details that running a Dentistry from the Heart Day involves. Everyone is looking forward to this great outreach again in 2016. Please check out the Dentistry from the Heart website to learn more about this worthwhile organization.
